Then comes that luxuriousness which we have described, and presently riches begin to appear mean to us, and we are displeased with our ancestral ways and scorn all the habits to which we were formerly trained. Then comes the craze for novelty; then men's minds take wing in madness, and a rash contempt seizes upon everything. It is no misapprehension that want makes men reckless and daring, but satiety causes even greater recklessness.
