All men are liable to error; and most men are, in many points, by passion or interest, under temptation to it; but who is so deprived of reason, that he will argue against demonstration? Who is so mad, that he will contend with certainty? The number of traitors is not great, who would be so willing to ruin the government, as to venture at the destruction of truth?

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. Corporations have been enthroned, an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war. God, please prevent the demise of our democratic republic. The power to issue money should be taken from banks and restored to Congress and the people to whom it belongs. I am afraid that the ordinary citizen will not perceive this or that our children will wake up, homeless, on the continent their fathers conquered. Banks are more dangerous than standing armies. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people to whom it properly belongs. If Congress has the right to issue paper money, it was given to them to use themselves and not to be delegated to individuals or corporations.
